The Week that Was…..Mental Health Awareness Week 2024

Colleagues from Russell WBHO, Russell Homes and Russell LDP at our Trafford Park HQ and sites across Manchester and Cheshire took time out over the week to take part in fundraising and awareness raising activities for Mental Health Awareness Week 2024.

We have raised almost £700 so far with all the proceeds going to the Lighthouse Charity!

Get Moving for Mental Health!

Staff had an energetic start to the week, with a lunch time boxing session at Bobbie-Joe’s Fitness Academy, just around the corner from head office and a stone’s throw from our Trafford 150 project.

Mental Health Awareness Week was launched by the Mental Health Foundation and their theme for this year is ‘Moving More for your Mental Health’. One of the most important things to help protect our mental health is regular movement. Our bodies and minds are connected. Looking after ourselves physically also helps us prevent problems with mental health. Movement is a great way to enhance wellbeing and helps us feel better about our bodies and improve self-esteem. It can also help reduce stress and anxiety and help us to sleep better.

Those who attended the session agreed that it was a fun and invigorating way to start the week and contributed towards meeting their health and fitness goals!

Cake Sale – Bake it or Fake it

Colleagues brought in their favourite sweet treats for our cake sales – with bonus points if you baked it yourself!  This ran all week in kitchens at head office and across our sites inviting everyone to make a donation with all proceeds going to the Lighthouse Charity.

Raffle – Wellness Day

To help the Lighthouse Charity continue their great work across our industry, we raffled a Wellness Day to be won by one of our employees. The winner received an additional day of annual leave to spend doing whatever makes them happy!

Coffee and Cake Morning

Staff were encouraged to pop into the kitchen area at head office and across sites for coffee, cake and a chat about life outside of work – it’s good to talk.  Staff at head office took the opportunity to put our brand-new bean to cup coffee machine to the test!

Wear It Green Day for Mental Health

Green is the international symbol for mental health awareness and wearing the colour shows colleagues, friends, family and strangers that we are thinking about the mental health of ourselves and those around us.

Wearing something green encourages open conversations about mental health and breaking down the barriers that prevents people from seeking help and support.

A huge thank you to our staff for rallying together for this worthy cause and enjoying a lot of laughs along the way!
