Health, Safety, Environment & Quality

It is our policy to do all that is reasonably practicable to ensure we provide a safe and healthy environment for staff, subcontractors, visitors and any others who may come into contact with business’ activities.

• Consultation with employees
• Providing support and assistance to our sub-contractors

Russell WBHO HSEQ Team

Russell WBHO is constantly striving to meet and excel at Industry Best Practice in health, safety, well-being and environmental matters.

Environmental responsibility

Sustainability is now part of the construction process and Russell WBHO aims to build all its projects in a sustainable manner. The team has the expertise to analyse the implications this has on construction methods, materials and how the building performs once completed.

More clients are demanding that their projects are completed to a BREEAM rating of ‘very good’ or above, with residential schemes having to adhere to ever higher Code for Sustainable Homes standards. Russell WBHO can provide options and solutions for clients in this field, and quickly respond to changing requirements and legislation.

The environmental impact of the building is tracked from initial concept through completion, and on into everyday use. It can involve replacing raw, natural materials with recycled content, reducing energy use and pollution during construction, ensuring waste is minimised and recycled, and introducing innovative solutions such as solar panel installation and state-of-the-art heating and ventilation systems.

Russell WBHO pledges to take account of the following factors as part of the process:

  • Reduction in carbon emissions in the design, construction and operation of the building
  • The amount of waste generated in construction
  • Amount of water used by the completed structure
  • Procurement of materials from sustainable sources
  • Minimise road miles for materials and suppliers
  • Effects upon the local ecology

Quality assurance

Successful project delivery is down to the combined skills of the wider team and it is vital to ensure they have the knowledge, experience and motivation to help achieve the client’s aims through the support of all employees, subcontractors and suppliers.

As a company, Russell WBHO is constantly learning and improving in order to pass on those benefits to clients. Involvement with Investors in People provides a framework for continued development to improve service, while adherence to ISO management standards and the Considerate Constructors scheme, and the fact that all site staff and sub-contractors are Construction Skills certified card holders, provides clients with added reassurance.

A highly motivated, skilled team of people who are totally committed to fulfilling our customer’s needs.

Russell WBHO hold a select list of trusted specialists a proven ability to deliver contracts to high standards. Sub-contractors are required to meet strict criteria in health and safety, management standards, and quality. Russell WBHO operates a friendly, firm but fair approach to ensure a high standard of work with first class service levels and specialist design input as required.

Accounts are held with all the major building material supply companies, which allows for cost-savings through long term relationships and bulk ordering. The Russell WBHO buying department works hard to ensure ‘just in time’ deliveries with supplier performance continually monitored.

Programmes are drawn up in close conjunction with the client and profession team, and are monitored continually by a dedicated project manager to ensure efficiency and both interim targets and completion dates are met.

Client instructions are acted upon immediately with cost implications to budget notified before work commences.

A friendly, professional relationship with clients and their project team is established in the early stages. Communication is key and allows constant assessment of methods and processes throughout the build, in order to surmise best practice upon completion and at the end of the defects liability period. Client satisfaction is our overall measure of success and, with repeat business and word-of-mouth recommendation so important, the aim is to be first in mind for clients when tendering their next project.
