The Challenge

Part of the Radclyffe Park regeneration, the 18,000 sq ft two storey health centre incorporates space for nine doctors and nurses providing general practice services, five dental consulting rooms a pharmacy and multi-functional community room.

Ordsall Health Center

Salford’s greenest public health building, steel frame, brick-clad health centre is rated BREEAM Excellent thanks to its design, materials and construction. It incorporates measures to improve energy efficient and waste reduction, to provide a pleasant indoor environment and contribute to the wellbeing of both staff and patients.

Operational gas, electricity and water bills will be reduced thanks to the thermally efficient building envelope – using Kingspan Thermawall TW50 insulation giving a 1.136 m²K/W25. Roof mounted solar photovoltaic panels are expected to produce 4,000W, while low energy light fittings and acoustic glass reduce demand for electricity.

Low flush toilets and efficient taps are also included to help save water. The shape of the building creates a central atrium, allowing natural light to flood in to the reception and waiting areas and from all directions.
