Russell WBHO supports Alzheimer’s Research UK this Christmas

Continuing our Christmas tradition, Russell WBHO is proud to donate to charity this festive season, supporting causes that matter deeply to our employees.

Following a moving nomination from our building student, Emily, the £1,000 donation will support Alzheimer’s Research UK. As the UK’s leading dementia research charity, its work aims to revolutionise the way dementia is diagnosed, treated and prevented, accelerating progress towards a cure.

Explaining why the charity is so personal to her, Emily said: “In 2018, my mum was diagnosed with young-onset Familial Alzheimer’s Disease (FAD) at just 39. FAD is one of the rarest forms of dementia, accounting for around 1 per cent of all Alzheimer’s cases. The diagnosis didn’t just affect my mum, it affected me and my family, as we became her carers.

“In May 2024, my mum passed away after living with the disease for six years. FAD is one of the only types of Alzheimer’s that can be passed genetically, which means I may also be at risk. That is why fundraising and supporting research has become so important to me, with the hope that it will contribute towards better treatment and ultimately, a cure.”

Emily and her family have been raising awareness and vital funds for FAD research through a wide range of activities including a 36-mile walk from Rochdale to Manchester, three half marathons, the Three Peaks Challenge, charity balls, and numerous sporting events. To date, their efforts have raised an incredible £35,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK!!

Charity nominations submitted each year show that Alzheimer’s disease has touched many families across Russell WBHO. When Emily shared her inspirational story, it resonated across the business, and Russell WBHO is proud to support a charity that is so meaningful to her and many others, helping to fund vital, life-changing research.
