Russell WBHO are well underway with the renovation of the prestigious Mere Golf Resort and Spa, a 157-acre resort located on the outskirts of Knutsford.
The project is scheduled for completion in Summer 2025. The works involve the refurbishment of the existing hotel, the expansion of golf and conference areas, the modernization of current guestrooms and the 1500m2 extension that will accommodate a further 26 No. guest bedrooms.
In recent weeks, we’ve been in the process of installing contiguous and load-bearing piles to the new bed block extensions. Additionally, we’ve conducted soft strip demolition within the existing guest rooms, stripped out the golf and conference areas, and are now forming the new car park areas.
Current ‘Building Student of the Year’ Megan has been based on the scheme from the early stages. Currently in year 4 of the 5-year degree programme, Megan is managing the piling installation and groundworks, alongside Construction Manager, Paul.
Megan said “Being on The Mere has allowed me to gain experience during the early stages of a construction project, which is something I haven’t previously had the chance to do. I have continued to work alongside my mentor Paul, assisting with the responsibility of overseeing and coordinating the activities of sub-contractors on a day-to-day basis. Over the last couple of months, I have also had the opportunity to assist the Site Engineer with the setting out and quality assurance of the piling activities. This hands-on involvement has not only broadened my understanding of construction processes but has also given me insight into the planning and precision required in such tasks. Every day is challenging but fun, and I am enjoying contributing to the successful execution of the project”.
Paul said “Megan is doing well at The Mere. She approaches her responsibilities with dedication, carries herself professionally, and always seizes the opportunity for her career development. After her involvement with the piling operations, she has built a level of confidence within this area which will help her in the next phase of groundworks at The Mere”.
In the upcoming weeks and months, our goal is to complete all demolition work in advance of commencing foundation works to the new Golf and Conference Centre. Simultaneously, the foundations for the new build extension will also continue to progress, in anticipation for steelwork erection in Q2 2024.
