The team celebrated last night as Russells Construction was crowned a Manchester Evening News Business of the Year 2019 award winner.
We collected the award for Best Company Turnover over £50m, with headquarters outside Manchester. The category reflects Russells’ recent merger with global contractor WBHO which is based in South Africa.
This recognises Russells as the region’s leading main contractor, acknowledging the record turnover achieved in the last year, the enormous growth of the business over the last two decades, and the huge amount of construction activity in the city at the moment, where we have 12 concurrent schemes.

Andrew Russell said: “This award is an incredible achievement for every single member of our team, and the directors want to thank each person for their dedication and commitment to the business. The award isn’t just about us creating fantastic buildings, it’s a business award and that speaks volumes about the company that we have built together. This is a successful, forward thinking business with an exciting future. We have done great things together, not least achieving record turnover in excess of £100million this year.
“The category also acknowledges and celebrates the group’s forward momentum in partnership with WBHO. We are no longer simply known as a leading regional contractor, we are now an integral part of a global operation, a partnership which will help us to explore new opportunities and continue to secure large-scale, complex and exciting construction projects.
“Thanks to the Manchester Evening News for hosting such a fantastic night, it was great to be part of a celebration of all that is great about Manchester, and thank you once again to the Russells team, the best of the best!”
