Hospital gives thanks for charity donation

The Royal Bolton Hospital has thanked Russell WBHO for the £1,500 donation made to the Neonatal Unit.

The donation was made in December in lieu of sending Christmas cards, something which has become an annual tradition for the company.

The Neonatal Unit was chosen following a nomination from HR manager Olivia Lea whose twin nephews, Theo and Isaac, were cared for by colleagues on the Bolton Neonatal Unit in December.

Olivia said: “Nominating Our Bolton NHS Charity felt like a really meaningful way to say thank you and give something back to all the amazing nurses on Bolton Neonatal Unit.”

Olivia’s sister, Theo and Isaac’s mum Michaela, also added her thanks to both the hospital and the company.

She said: “Our boys spent three months on the neonatal unit and even though we wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone, my husband and I wouldn’t change a thing about our journey.

“The nurses were so warm, loving and inclusive that we look back on our time on the unit as something really special. Despite the worry and uncertainty, the unit became our home and the nurses became our friends.

“We are overwhelmed by Russell WBHO’s generosity and absolutely delighted this donation will be put to such good use and will improve the experience of other premature twins and their families.”

Gareth Russell, joint managing director of Russell WBHO, said: “Making a charitable donation in lieu of sending Christmas cards is a great opportunity for our employees to give something back to the community.

“Of all the nominations this year, Olivia’s stood out and it was clear which charity should receive the donation. We were all moved by her sister’s story and delighted that – thanks to the care the family received at the Royal Bolton Hospital – the boys were home for Christmas.”

Cath Bainbridge, Matron of Bolton Neonatal Unit, added: “We are so grateful to Russell WBHO for their donation and to Olivia for nominating Our Bolton NHS Charity.

“This donation will be used to fund the neonatal unit’s first twin cot, which will allow twins to continue bonding after birth and will enable both staff and parents to care for them together.”

Our Bolton NHS Charity is the official charity partner of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. It aims to go above and beyond what the NHS can provide so patients receive the standard of care staff would want for themselves, their families and friends.

Their mission is to invest in the latest technology and research; make improvements to the care environment and experience so patients feel comfortable and at ease, and fund specialist training so our staff provide the highest standard of care to patients.

You can make a donation to the Bolton Neonatal Unit through their JustGiving page.
