Members of the Russell WBHO Three Peaks Challenge team are stepping up their training ahead of their 24-mile hike later this month.
The 12-strong team is taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks on Friday April 22nd to raise money for mental health charity Manchester Mind in memory of friend and colleague Chris Scotson who died in 2021.
Their charity T-Shirts have arrived and each member of the team is going the extra mile to train for the gruelling walk, which they hope to complete in under 12 hours.
Olivia Lea, head of Human Resources, said: “Now we’ve started our training it’s really hit home how hard this challenge is going to be. Up hill and down dale three times in under 12 hours won’t be easy to achieve but I know everyone is working hard on their fitness and stamina so we’ll have the best chance possible of completing it within the time.”
The challenge includes 5,300 ft of ascent as it takes in the summits of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough which form part of the Pennine range and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The team has set a fundraising target of £3,000 and donations can be made via a Go Fund Me page.
Team member Liesel McQueen added: “We’re overwhelmed by the donations so far, all of our friends, family, colleagues and professional contacts have been so generous. We set quite an ambitious target of £3,000 but we want our contribution to make a real difference for the charity and be a fitting tribute to Chris. Hopefully these last few weeks we can push on and reach the target by the time we’re climbing those hills.”
Mental Health Support is a key campaign for Russell WBHO, which has a dedicated Mental Health First Aid team trained to provide support for employees. Manchester Mind is the company’s chosen charity for 2022, as selected by the staff in honour of Chris, whose family is also supporting the organisation.
