The contractor was appointed to the project by Peel Land and Property. Designed by AHR Architects, the store includes a rooftop solar panel farm, construction of a petrol station and 400-space car park, complete with click and collect pick up point.
The new supermarket is central to Chatham Waters, a £650m regeneration scheme of part of the old Chatham Docks which has created around 450 new jobs. The site’s heritage is remembered in a piece of artwork on the store’s fencing, paying homage to the giant cranes which work at the dockyard.

We’ve worked with Russells before in the North West and were impressed with their track record in delivering new retail facilities, and so brought them on board for this project. The team didn’t disappoint and delivered the project five weeks ahead of schedule which was great news for shoppers who have been pounding the aisles ever since.”
Andrew Russell, director at Russells Construction, oversaw the project. Russells has developed a strong portfolio of retail projects within the last few years, having also built stores on behalf of Waitrose, Morrisons and Aldi as well as retail parks for Derwent Holdings in Manchester, Salford, Hull, Warrington and Sheffield.
