The new 27,000-pallet ambient store almost doubles the capacity of the company’s Belle Eau Park facility in Newark, Nottinghamshire, which already houses a 29,000 pallet cold store.
Belle Eau Park is now Yearsley Logistics’ first Food Service ‘SuperHub’, holding a vast range of frozen and dry products and supplying food service clients across the UK. The new warehouse has opened for business earlier than anticipated after the contractor completed some sections ahead of schedule. The project also included a new office building, service yard, fuel station and vehicle wash.
The £10million investment in the new facility is the first phase of development at the site, which will eventually see a replacement cold store and new solar farm to supply electricity. Recruitment is currently underway for the 120 new jobs the development has created, and secures the existing 220 jobs at the site for the long term.
Tim Moran, Yearsley Logistics Director said: “The new ambient store allows Yearsley Logistics to fulfil and extend its commitments to all its food service customers. It is our first SuperHub dedicated to this sector and we are very excited at how we have been able to bring the ambient side of our clients’ business on board as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
“We offer an all-encompassing service to manufacturers, wholesalers and importers alike, which also includes global logistics services. This means clients only need to us as a single supplier for all their frozen and dry goods logistics needs, thus eliminating hassle and reducing cost.
“As demand from customers increases, investment in our facilities is vital. Expanding this site allows us to meet all their needs from one location, secures the existing 220 jobs and allows us to provide an additional 120 new roles. We are recruiting mainly from the local area and hope to have all vacancies filled by June.”
Andrew Russell, director of Russells Construction, added: “More than a decade of designing and building Yearsley Group facilities has resulted in an open, honest and efficient working relationship which has enormous benefits in the delivery of the scheme. With Yearsley, we are always involved right from the start and the communication between our teams means decisions are taken quickly, which in turn can impact on the programme schedule.
“We were pleased to have been able to handover parts of this project early, to allow for the internal racking systems to be installed and goods moved in so the facility could come on line weeks earlier than planned. It goes to show how a deep understand of a client’s requirements and a lot of experience in the sector can have a really positive impact on the outcome of the project.“
A host of ancillary services are also available from Belle Eau Park including individual order picking, shrink wrapping and onward dispatch. The new store is holding a range of non-temperature-dependent products, from tinned items to cleaning products.
Customers who use Yearsley Logistics ambient facilities can expect the continued high level of service as they have provided to the frozen industry for over 60 years. Yearsley Logistics vast infrastructure, leading edge systems and customer focussed culture will facilitate all client’s needs.
