The Challenge
Award-winning 13-storey, 193-bedroom hotel built on a previously distressed site in Manchester city centre, close to the gateway Piccadilly train station. Russell WBHO removed previously installed steelwork and utilised and improved the existing foundations to construct the 11 stories above ground and two basement floors.

An innovative construction method developed for this constrained 835m2 site which resulted in a build rate of one floor per week.
Utilising pre-cast sandwich panels, complete with insulation, glazing and brickwork, lifted into place with a single tower crane at the centre of the building, saved an estimated three months on programme.
During construction the building won the Manchester Society of Architects Best Unbuilt Scheme, it was given Highly Commended in the Concrete Society Awards and won Best Leisure Development at Insider Property Awards 2013.
