The Challenge

Construction of the 12-storey hotel presented a number of challenges due to its 5700 sq ft footprint and location, bordered by the busy Oxford Road and the River Medlock.

The statement wedge shaped building comprises 147-bedrooms, a subterranean reception area, contemporary bar, meeting facilities and an impressive entrance lobby.

Russell WBHO employed a variety of techniques to build on this constrained site including off site elements such as pre-cast concrete walls and prefabricated bathroom pods.

The contemporary exterior features a black brick which was installed using a mast climbing gantry rather than scaffolding, and subsequently won Best Commercial Building from the Brick Development Association in 2011.
