The steelwork installation has taken approximately 10 weeks and has involved the pouring of concrete slabs to provide floors for each new level as the building increases from four to six storeys.
The new facade is continuing to take shape and eventually 30 Brown Street will become The Core, providing 48,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation in the heart of Manchester city centre.
The first phase of works involved the internal strip out and removal of the external envelope, including taking off the original mansard roof and brickwork facade. The skeleton of the building, which is currently hidden behind a protective acoustic wrap is now being modified with the new façade of curtain walling and Dryvit render panels.
A series of concrete panels have been installed on the upper floors by a roof mounted ‘spider crane’, to create a flat frontage rather than the current stepped design. Specialists are currently on site installing the lightweight steel window frames ahead of the glazing installation which will begin in a few weeks.
Russells Construction was appointed to the £8 million project by OBI property, on behalf of the owner Boultbee Brooks Real Estate. The project is due to complete early autumn 2018.
