Manchester main contractor Russell WBHO is undertaking the sensitive refurbishment and restoration of the Grade II* listed former council offices in Dale Street for Fragrance Group.

The project, designed by Liverpool-based architecture practice Falconer Chester Hall, will see the 179-bedroom hotel opening in early 2023.

It will feature a swimming pool, gym, spa and treatment rooms in a new four-storey rear extension, with the restaurant, bar and lounge housed in the beautifully restored interior spaces of the original building.

Russell WBHO will continue to progress work to the external façades using specialist stonemasons and window restoration contractors.

As installation of the bronze cladding on the new extension completes and the scaffolding wrap starts to come off the original building, revealing some of the restored stonework underneath, the developer has revealed a series of CGIs giving a sneak peak of how the inside of the hotel will look.

These include views of the stunning Palm Court Lounge, the Tea Room and one of the guest bedrooms.

Gareth Russell, joint managing director of Russell WBHO said: “We’re pleased to start unveiling the exterior façade, which has been cleaned and restored by our specialist heritage trades, while we continue to work closely with the architects, our heritage consultants and the city council to create the fantastic internal spaces as envisaged in the newly released CGIs.”

Accor’s agreement with Fragrance Group also includes two existing hotels in Paignton in Devon.

Philip Lassman, Vice President Development, Accor Northern Europe, said: “Following the successful launch of hotels with Fragrance Group in both Australia and Singapore, Accor is delighted to be bringing the partnership to the UK and Northern Europe market with these three new signings. We are particularly excited to bring the MGallery brand to Liverpool in such a preeminent location and unique building.

“The expansion of our successful partnership demonstrates the growing confidence and active appetite within the market, and we are pleased to see that investors are forging ahead to support the recovery of our industry. We are proud of our continued growth which is enabling us to further develop projects in the UK with great partners who share Accor’s vision and ambition for the hospitality industry.”

Martin Rogers representing the Fragrance Group said: “Fragrance were delighted to sign with Accor to operate these three new hotels currently under construction in the UK. This very much cements the relationship between Accor and The Fragrance Group and we look forward to opening these hotels later in 2022 and early 2023. These new hotels are a reflection on the growth of the regional hotel market in the UK.”
