Ground breaking for Manchester’s Oxygen development

Oxygen, Store Street Manchester

Russells Construction is preparing to commence piling and basement retention works, install mains drainage connections, and carry out bulk excavation works for the scheme which will bring 345 luxury apartments and 12 family town houses to Manchester city centre.

The start of construction was marked with a ground-breaking ceremony and sales launch to UK buyers organised by Alliance Investments.

The groundbreaking ceremony for Oxygen

Designed by 5Plus Architects, Oxygen is made up of three distinct buildings connected by a visible lift and including a 31-storey residential tower. The townhouses will be constructed at ground level with the one, two and three-bedroom apartments above and parking for 119 cars below.

Located in Store Street, a five-minute walk from Piccadilly train station, the development is being built to the highest specification with the accommodation supported by a wide range of amenities. Residents will benefit from 24/7 concierge, a garden terrace with allotments, exclusive sky gardens, cinema room, gym and swimming pool.

Nick Mullins, development director at Alliance said: “The sales launch was really well attended with UK buyers attracted by the broad range of homes and facilities Oxygen will offer.

“As Manchester’s first vertical village, the development will provide residents with a variety of luxury homes as well as amenities and services that will create a sustainable and thriving community. With a roof garden, allotments, and spa it will create a sociable environment and lifestyle that will appeal to both young professionals and families looking to rent or buy.”

Gareth Russell, director of Russells Construction, said: “At 375,825 sq ft in total, the size and scale of this project will make Oxygen our largest in the city centre to date. This groundbreaking is the start of a three-year programme by our major projects team which is highly experienced in delivering complex high rise projects within Manchester city centre. Our professional team understands the challenges of tight sites like Store Street, and we will be using techniques developed on past projects and close communication with the neighbours, client and the council to minimise disruption to the surrounding area.”

5plus director Jon Matthews said: “It is great to see spades in the ground and a scheme we are passionate about being delivered for the city. This will be a wonderful place to live and we are very proud to be playing our part.”
