Axis rising: getting ready for the finale

Axis Tower Manchester, centre, October 2018

Construction will soon reach its highest point at the project in Albion Street, and the external envelope is also nearing completion.

Clearly seen in new images released by the project team – contractor Russells Construction, developer Property Alliance Group and architect 5Plus – the concrete structure is up to 29th storey and most of the 2,200 glazed panels have already been installed. The recess for the 10-storey media screen has also been created.

The façade on three sides has been completed up to the 25th floor, while the final section of the southern elevation is set to be wrapped over the coming weeks, with the exception of the hoist position, which will be removed around Easter 2019. Internally, first fix plumbing and electrics has begun and partitional walls are being installed.

An official ceremony will be held to celebrate the Topping Out in November, with students from the University of Salford among those who will be invited to mark the occasion, as part of Russells Constructions ‘Building Student Programme’ in partnership with the university.

Axis will house 172 apartments and off-plan sales are well underway by developer Property Alliance Group. Engineering support was provided by WSP Parsons Brinkerhoff and Alliance Investments is managing the sales of the apartments.

Manchester is a hive of activity at the moment, with a recent crane survey hitting 64. within the city centre alone. The images demonstrate the fantastic central location of the Axis Tower at the southern gateway to the city.
