We like to challenge our Building Student trainees, after all they could one day be in charge of a multi-million pound construction project.
But sometimes we like to set them an unexpected challenge to see what they come up with.
For a recent team building away day we asked our Year 1 and Year 2 trainees to put on their creative hats and paint a portrait of last years’ First Class Honours degree graduate Sam Dickenson.
Not only did they don a variety of colourful hats and dressing up gear, they got right into the artistic spirit of things and created some unique masterpieces.
Construction Director John Millward oversees the Building Student programme.
“It’s important to include a little lighthearted fun in the student’s exacting schedule and give them a chance to relax and get to know each other. Teamwork, knowing and trusting your colleagues is absolutely crucial in construction, and what better way to develop those relationships than by having some fun together.
“We brought together the Year 1s and 2s for an away day which included an artistic challenge to get their creative juices flowing. It was a great opportunity for the trainees to be together, chat about the work they’re doing and compare notes, and to develop that camaraderie while doing something totally out of the ordinary.”
The portraits were judged by the subject himself, with Sam selecting the abstract representation from First Year Grace as the winning canvas to sit above his mantelpiece at home.
