Russell WBHO has been selected by Peel Retail & Leisure to deliver a multi-million-pound thermal upgrade at Trafford Palazzo in TraffordCity near Manchester.
Now on site, the Manchester-based main contractor is carrying out major works to improve the thermal efficiency of the 330,000 sq ft leading retail and leisure destination. The upgrades include infilling the cladding to prevent heat loss and installing new curtain wall doors to the link bridge. New heating systems will also be introduced to lobbies serving the car park, Metrolink and link bridge.
Harry Basra, Project Director at Russell WBHO, said: “We’re proud to be leading this project for Peel Retail & Leisure. From the early stages, we’ve worked closely with the client and the design team, including carrying out detailed thermal modelling. This has allowed us to develop targeted upgrades to reduce air leakage and mitigate the impact of extreme external temperatures.
“Our collaborative approach has also ensured a robust plan for working within a live environment, minimising disruption to both tenants and visitors.”
Mark Whittaker, Managing Director of Peel Retail & Leisure said: “This vital upgrade forms part of our ongoing investment in Trafford Palazzo, cementing its position as a best-in-class retail and leisure destination. We look forward to seeing the improvements progress, creating a more sustainable and comfortable environment for all those who visit, and work at, Trafford Palazzo.”
Acquired by Peel Retail & Leisure in 2021, and formerly known as Barton Square, Trafford Palazzo attracts five million visitors a year.
