Team gets ‘tough’ to raise cash for kids

The team includes members of Russells staff and their subcontractors, who are all in training for a Tough Mudder 20k obstacle course in Grantham, near Leicester, on May 21.

The race will see teams from across the region pitted against each other and the elements, aiming to get everyone across the finish line. It combines endurance running with high walls, water jumps, cargo net crawls and an awful lot of mud.

The Russells team has set a fundraising target of £2,500 which will be donated to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, a charity the company has supported for a number of years.

Organiser Dean Moran said team members had boosted their training in the run up to the big day. He said: “Several of the participants maintain a decent level of fitness, but everyone has had to up the ante with their training. Some people have said they are dreading it but I think we’ll fly round the course as the emphasis is more on teamwork than just speed, and that’s something I know we’re good at.

“At Russells we do quite a lot of challenges for charity, it’s a great way for us to pull together and have a good time, while also giving something back to a great cause. We’re been really lucky so far with friends, family and colleagues being really generous with their donations. But we’re about £900 short of our target with just over a week to go and we want to do everything we can to reach that target as RMCH is such a fantastic charity and deserves all the help it can get.”

The Russells team comprises: Sam Howarth, John Irvine, Dean Moran, Jonathan Smith, Jon Shackell, Matthew Buckley, Liam Jones, Paul Jones, Brian Maloney, Josh Stones, Mark Stocks, Paul McCall, and Ian Roberts.
