Check out the hidden musical talents of our Estimator Will Earl – trumpeter extraordinaire – as he makes the cut for BBC weatherman Owain Wyn Evan’s lockdown “House Band”.
Oh and just warning for those of a sensitive disposition, he’s the one playing while in the bath ! Owain’s House Band.
“I was in the bath on Sunday evening and remembered the deadline for sending a daft video to the BBC for Owain’s House Band was midnight. I didn’t have much time so just grabbed the trumpet and belted out the tune,” said Will.
“It may not be the most proudest moment of my musical life, but it was worth it to make people laugh, and it was all for a good cause.
“I never imagined it getting broadcasted on BBC national news though, and being shared by all my friends and family!”
Will has played the trumpet for about 20 years, having starting at school and played with brass bands at some iconic venues such as Royal Albert Hall London and The Sage in Gateshead.
He now plays in a funk band called The Plimp Souls www.theplimpsouls.com based in Manchester, regularly playing Matt & Phreds and Albert Schloss. They’ve also been supported Radio 6 DJ Craig Charles at his Funk & Soul shows at Band on the Wall.
Will added: “We’ve played all over the UK, London and Edinburgh, various festivals over the years such as Kendal Calling and Beatherder Festival.
“We were due to play at the Jazz, Funk & Soul Festival in Birmingham in July, but of course it’s been postponed like all of our other gigs this year due to COVID-19.
“But we’ve kept ourselves busy during Lockdown and have managed to release a new single called Firewalker and put together a new ‘socially distanced’ music video.”
Firewalker is available on Spotify, Apple Music etc. or you can view the accompanying ‘socially distanced’ music video on You Tube.
