Russells on programme with 3 St Peters

Russells Construction is on programme with 3 St Peters

The mechanical and electrical installation programme has begun at 3 St Peters, the new 20-storey building in Manchester’s Civic Quarter from Russells Construction.

Two hotel operators will share the building, with Motel One occupying the first eight floors and StayCity Apartments floors nine to 20.

Genlec, the Leigh based M&E contractor, has commenced the 21-month M&E programme and will have between 20 and 40 operatives on site starting from the ground floor and working their way up.

Extensive preparatory works have taken place during the months prior, with Genlec supplying modular units to concrete suppliers for precast fixing.

Jonathan Twentyman, managing director of Genlec, said: “This is a huge project overall, and a particularly large-scale M&E contract that applies a range of approaches from traditional install to precast/modular.

“The busy and confined city centre location has to an extent dictated this approach and this will undoubtedly be the biggest challenge throughout.

“A close collaborative working relationship between the client and the rest of the supply chain will be incredibly important throughout.”

Gareth Russell, director of Russells Construction, added: “The new 3 St Peters is really starting to take shape and we’re pleased to be working with Genlec to get started with the M&E elements as planned on programme.”
