Precision crane removal for 3 St Peter’s Square

Removal of the 78 metre tower crane at the new hybrid hotel in St Peter’s Square has been successfully completed.

With just 200mm clearance between the mast and the edge of the void, the meticulous operation was carried out by an experienced team from Russell WBHO and supplier Falcon Cranes.

Positioned within the light well of the basement and ground floor podium of the new hotel for just over 70 weeks, the freestanding crane was used to install the pre-cast concrete frame, install high level glazing, and load materials up to the 20th floor ahead of the roof installation.

A 500-ton mobile crane was positioned in St Peter’s Square and lifted dismantled sections from the two-storey part of the structure over the four-day operation. Suspended cradles will be used to complete the building’s external envelope, with formal Topping Out expected before the end of October.

Working with developer Property Alliance Group, 3 St Peter’s Square is a hybrid-hotel for Motel One and StayCity. The ground floor up to the 8th storey will house 328 Motel One rooms, with amenity areas at street level. Floors nine to 20 will feature 256 studio and one bedroom units for apart-hotel operator StayCity.
